I've poured in over 35 years of my experience into this book, so I'm really hoping you find it useful and not just as a paperweight!
Setting credit policies, collecting past due balances, recognizing the warning signs of an account going bad, legal actions etc. are all part of this book.
While I've written other books on this topic, the Wiley folks really focused my energy on this one to reach YOU, not the collection attorneys or collection agencies, but You as a credit executive or business owner.
This book should also prove useful to recruits in the collection business, as the concepts of making written and verbal demands for payment, along with forms to use, and handling disputes (real and fake) are all part of the day-to-day environment for you.
Bottom line: Dummies books are not for "dummies"...they are for people who know about the topic, but need to know more....and by "more" I mean practical, day-to-day stuff, not academic material. About the Author
Steven A. Harms is a partner in Muller, Muller, Richmond, Harms & Myers, a 50-year-old law firm engaged exclusively in the collection business, with offices throughout Michigan and a network of attorney offices throughout the world for handling collection matters. Steve's office is located at 33233 Woodward Ave., Birmingham, MI 48009. He can be reached by phone at 248-645-2440 and by e-mail at steve@mullerfirm.com.
Steve is a frequent lecturer and the author of collection books, articles, and materials. He's active with the International Association of Commercial Collectors and the Commercial Law League of America. He's also an adjunct professor at Walsh College and has been listed in Who's Who in American Law since 1985. He was named one of Michigan's "Super Lawyers" in 2007-2008 by the publishers of the journal Law & Politics. Aaron Larson is an attorney practicing law in Ann Arbor, Michigan. After graduating from the University of Michigan Law School, Aaron started practice as a quintessential small town lawyer, providing legal services to individuals and small business clients. He subsequently worked for the Institute of Continuing Legal Education in Ann Arbor, where he developed professional education programs for lawyers in areas such as business law and collections. His current legal practice focuses on civil appeals. I HAVE BEEN A DEBT COLLECTOR FOR OVER FOUR DECADES AND A COLLECTION AGENCT OWNER FOR 41 YEARS.
I DID NOT LEARN HOW TO COLLECT A DEBT FROM "CREDIT & COLLECTION FOR DUMMIES" BUT I DID DISCOVER THAT I COULD USE THIS BOOK AS A CUSTOMER SERVICE AND SALES TOOL.
AS AN AGENCY OWNER I HAVE TRIED TO EDUCATE MY CREDITOR CLIENTS ON HOW TO PROPERLY HANDLE THEIR RECEIVABLES. BY DOING THIS I GAIN NEW CLIENTS AND RETAIN CLIENT LOYALTY.
